New take on a scrolling shooter
Nightflight is mostly a traditional scrolling shooter, but the goal-based missions (Don't let any mines get by, even if you have to ram them!) and stunning visuals really set this apart. The retro theme is fun and well done. Wingmen add a little visual spice to the game so you know you're not fighting the battle all by yourself.
As you fly over the landscape, the clouds look like real cloud layers, sometimes dense, sometimes easily seen through. And the landscape itself is teeming with signs of life. Little details like that really make this game "pop" visually. I could rave for hours about how cool the fades from black & white to color are, and how vibrant the art is, but I'll leave it at that.
Gameplay is solid, with tilt controls which really work well and feel natural. These controls allow you to actually see what you're doing without covering half the screen with your thumbs.
This is definitely in my top 10 games right now.
